If your website has been hacked into, Google (and other search engines) may be aware of this and put up a ‘Reported Attack Page’ notice in place of the website.
This will prevent visitors from reaching your website and potentially getting an infection/malware. Please see the following steps needed to remove Googles ‘Reported Attack Page’ message from your website.
- Download the entire public_html directory from your hosting account
- Download and install the following freely available programs:
– Microsoft Security Essentials
– Malwarebytes - Scan your local machine including the public_html directory and remove any malicious content if detected
- Upload the public_html directory to your hosting account, overwriting the public_html folder that is already there
- Change your cPanel/FTP passwords
- If you have any third party scripts/software running on your site (such as Content Management Systems, blogs, forums, galleries etc), please ensure these are updated to their most recent security releases. This is an important step as it is likely this was the cause of the hack in the first place
- Contact Google and request that they verify your sites security to remove the “attack page” message
